Wildflowers

Here are some photos I just took of Texas Wildflowers growing in a field by my home. I was experimenting with my ISO & shutter speed, as well as focus points. I am amazed that the shot of the ladybug came out so well, because it was so windy and the yellow flowers were blowing around like crazy!

Yesterday was my nephew Drew's baptism at the church where my brother-in-law & sister-in-law attend. It was a sweet ceremony, that was a precious reminder of how important each & every child is. He is a long-prayed for member of this family, and we treasure the honor of being his sponsors.

Pizza Tonight!

I tried this super-easy pizza recipe, and we all loved it!
I thought I'd share it, since I love to pass on a good thing :)

Crazy Crust Pizza

1 c. flour
2/3 c. milk
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. cornmeal
1 tsp. dried oregano
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 c. pizza sauce
1 c. mozzarella cheese (I used more - we love extra cheese!)
1/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese
Toppings (use several - this is similar to deep-dish pizza): Italian sausage, 1/2 finely chopped onion, 1/2 c. green and/or red pepper, pepperoni, mushrooms, Canadian bacon, etc.

Cook the toppings that need to be precooked (sausage, veggies, etc.)

In a bowl, combine flour, milk, eggs, and salt. Spray nonstick cooking spray on a 14" pizza pan (with sides, or crust will run off!) and sprinkle with cornmeal. Pour batter into pan, tilting to cover. Spoon toppings over batter; sprinkle with oregano & pepper.

Bake @ 425' for 10-12 min., or until lightly browned. Spread with pizza sauce & sprinkle with cheeses. Bake 5-10 min. longer or until sauce is heated through & cheese is melted.

Tired of Being Tired?

Are you tired all the time? Do you feel like you could go to sleep for several days and still not feel rested? Homeschooling parents of young children have a perpetual dazed look on their face and often wonder, “How will I find the energy to do all this work?” In addition to completing endless, daily tasks, a homeschooler’s energy is depleted when sleep is robbed by a little one’s cries that require the comfort of a hug to make it through the night.

Aren’t you glad God never gets tired? He is always there and ready for the day’s problems even when you aren’t. “Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.” (Isaiah 40:28) He is a loving God and has a strength-training program designed just for you. “He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.” (Isaiah 40:29)

The secret to finding that strength comes from waiting – waiting on Him. Without the wind, an eagle has to beat its wings against the air to fly because of its size. Without the Holy Spirit, we beat ourselves with the daily responsibilities of schoolwork, chores, and family. God’s Word reminds us that greater success is found when we wait for His power to lift us.

Would you like to soar today? Allow the Lord to come under your problems and raise you up to see the big picture below. Ask Him to show you what your life should look like. What activities can you eliminate or change? What daily routines can you begin to help you organize your day? “Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40: 30-31)

Lord, I claim the promise of Your strength today. Lift me up above all these tasks, and show me how to get everything done. I trust You to guide me and help me find the rest I need. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Treasure Hunt

So here we have the fruits of the day spent with my mom at Texas' largest flea market in Canton. They say it's the largest in the USA, although I don't know if that's true! It is four days long, and we've never been able to see everything when we've gone for just one day - it really is huge!

I am pleased to say I went prepared, with a cart, good walking shoes, cash in the form of small bills, a list & my lunch. However, I forgot sunscreen, and ended up with a painful burn on my neck. Note to self: sunburn returns with spring!

I managed to get about half of what was on my list - I am quite pleased with this as well :) I have some work to do on some of these pieces, but I managed to get some great bargains & a great sense of satisfaction that comes with finding a treasure.

Here's what I came home with:
1. New end table, with second shelf to slide my laptop into
2. Pretty green lamp, to sit on said table
3. Wrought iron piece for my kitchen, that made me smile as it looks like the sun
4. Red metal stool - too cute!
5. Chandelier to replace my current brassy one - needs rewiring & paint
6. One of my favorite vintage linens - a Wilendur Red Rose cloth
7. Some excellent vintage doilies
8. A pair of embroidered pillowcases
9. A turquoise & silver brooch
10. A sparkly green glass knob for a curio that I already have (which also needs paint)
11. A wrought iron cross
