On the road to Nevada... so far the trip has been lovely, and relatively uneventful in a good kind of way.
Yesterday morning during my first turn of sitting/not driving, I finished off reading The Shack. When everyone else was reading this last year, I wasn't sure I wanted to. But I picked it up a few days ago and got sucked in.

Now I know my thoughts toward God will never be the same. Even some of my thoughts and ways toward my husband and children will never be the same. I had not thought it possible for a work of fiction to have this affect on me. And much of the content was in classes I've attended at our church previously, which were greatly beneficial to me, but reading it in fictional form where you can relate to the characters really gave it that extra punch to drive it home in my heart.

Nope, no dogs being given away here...
"Poodle" is the name of Jennifer Paganelli's newest fabric line, and as always she's filled it to the brim with fun patterns and bright, beautiful colors...

She's giving away four fat quarter bundles on Monday, to four lucky readers who leave a comment on this post over on Jennifer's blog!
I'm getting ready to go to Vegas, baby!

OK, so I'm not a gambler or big on the party scene - we're going along with Chad for a conference. We are so blessed to be allowed to travel with him for business, and make use of his business accomodations (yep, Mandalay Bay is where we're staying, and I'm so excited!) But I'm hoping to have some extra cash to do some fun things with the girls, so...
I've taken big discounts off all premade clothing in my shop - you can find all the sale items right here!
It was hard to be mad at this big guy for eating my plant, knowing he's just doing what God made him to do in preparation for morphing into some amazing new creature someday soon!
There is a song by Steven Curtis Chapman that says:
I can see the fingerprints of God
When I look at you
I can see the fingerprints of God
And I know its true
You're a masterpiece
That all creation quietly applauds
And you're covered with the fingerprints of God
So look around you and see where YOU can see God's fingerprints. Is it in nature? Kids? Animals? Where do you see them? Here's how to join in:
1. Blog with your interpretation of God's fingerprints.
2. Be sure to link so others can find the entire list of participants! Go over to PamperingBeki's blog to add your link to the list of participants.

This is what happens when you use the night setting option on my husband's point and shoot in a dimly lit cruise ship theater. I like the effect!
Remember, the speech/thought bubbles are included for the Self Portrait Challenge theme this month. So much fun has been generated by this theme over on Flickr, where we can put our own suggestions for what is being said in the bubbles!

Living in the Bahamas is a world away from the life I lead...
The above shot was seen as we slipped into port on Grand Bahama Island on day one of our cruise. This was my favorite island of the trip, it was more like being in the country.
We had a kayaking, swimming & hiking trip on Grand Bahama, for which we took an underwater camera, and I have yet to have those developed & put on cd, so those will have to wait...
Up next, I'm wearing a top I made for this trip!
Amy Butler's "Sun Surf Halter" pattern (which I happen to have available in my etsy shop...) from one of her Midwest Modern 2 prints & a bit of her Charm line for the tie...
Of course, I cannot make something from a pattern anymore without greatly altering it - I narrowed the pieces to fit it on one yard of fabric, and I lined it with a shelf bra made from knit instead of traditional lining. I'm very happy with this pattern, love how it looks on, soooo comfortable, I'd definitely make it again!

On day two, we visited the island of Nassau, it was much more crowded and busy...

This tree was literally growing within the side wall of this building, which makes me wonder, how did this happen?

The Straw Market, Nassau, Bahamas...
I bought a little necklace from her, she was so sweet and insisted on putting it on for me!

why not, it's vacation?
(on the dock at port in Nassau)

these were huge - probably 12" across! The guy wanted $3 each, but there was no way it would fit in my suitcase....

While my husband and I were gone on our vacation trip last week, I had some time for some good reading, especially on the airplane (ugh - I do not enjoy the long waits that are involved with flying!)
I finally finished reading "Dewey" by Vicki Myron.

This was a wonderful, heartwarming true story, that weaves the lives of a small Iowa town, especially the life of the author, with the life of a cat named Dewey. He was found as a tiny kitten, shoved into the library night book dropbox where Vicki worked, and became the library's cat (his name is Dewey, like the Dewey Decimal system, get it? ha!) I have a special place in my heart for libraries, and this story is the perfect picture of why.
I truly hope a someone committed to making good family films picks this up and makes it into a movie! Yes, I am not always a fan of books made into movies, depending on how it's done, but this story is such a positive one that would be wonderful for the entire family if done well!
I finished "Dewey" during a four hour wait in the Miami airport, on our way to fly home. Since I had nothing else with me to read for the flight, I picked up the June/July issue of Everyday with Rachael Ray.

I was salivating for the entire plane ride - good thing I had some snacks in my carry-on! The best part of this issue is the total devotion to grilling, and the amazing number of useable recipes for adults and kids alike! So many good ideas for making tasty veggies, too, for those who find getting kids to eat veggies a challenge (raising my hand high!)
I've already made a recipe from this issue last night to take to a barbeque, and there are so many delicious ideas that I'm prepared for making them every day this week!
As Rachael says, Yum-O!
